On three bright days during the last weekend in September 41,000 excited spectators were pouring onto the Landiwiese in Zurich to marvel at the world-best freestyle athletes in the disciplines snowboard, skateboard, FMX, BMX and freeski. Völkl teamrider Marc Andre Tarte scored a hat trick with his victory: The Canadian won the freestyle.ch for the third time! Not only that, he also performed the first one-footed backflip ever seen in a contest! In all disciplines athletes were battling against each other in a sudden death head-to-head competition, which brought out some spectacular tricks and surprise presentations.
Amongst the snowboarders the two Finnish Spin-brothers Risto Mattila and Antti Autti were teamed up for the quarterfinals. Risto secured his spot in the finale with a clean backside 720. In the second team Mathieu Crepel started against the double freestyle.ch winner Marc Andre Tarte. Marc made the crowds go ape shit with an unsuspected one-footed backflip and made it, even though he didn´t completely stick the trick, into the big final competing against Risto Mattila. The Fin fell while landing his frontside 900 tailgrab. The crowd motivated their favorite Marc Andre with applause and exaltation to do another one-footed backflip. It was unbelievable, how he flew through the Zurich evening sky and smoothly landed under shouting and cheering, but had to surrender to the compression in the run out. Nevertheless, he sent the Fin to second place and secured the title of freestyle.champ for the third time in a row with this terrific presentation.
